What a little miracle.
I’ve heard that the first time an aunt meets her niece or nephew, they shouldn’t expect to be instantly attached. Meeting a newborn is like meeting any new person, you get to know them through time and slowly become attached emotionally. Yet, as I set eyes on my beautiful little niece for the first time, I fell in love.
Amelia Rose Hicks was born this morning a little after 3. She is 7 pounds, 11 ounces and 19 inches long. She has a full head of brown hair, that they say might turn blonde after being washed.
As I held her for the first time, it was hard to keep from crying. I was just mesmerized as she made little noises and moved around. She sucked on my knuckle some and eventually we had her sucking on her own thumb, with a little help.
A baby can’t really be explained by anything other than a miracle. Being part of Ashley’s life throughout the nine months of pregnancy, and then seeing this little angel, knowing that she was inside a tummy for all of that time, is absolutely amazing. The fact that a woman’s body just knows when it is time, and the baby automatically prepares to enter the world, just astonishing. It completely sets you back, humbles you and puts you in complete awe of the things God has created. I don’t know how anyone can experience a pregnancy, through their own body or watching someone else, and still think that God does not exist.
So blessed to be part of this little girls life and to watch her grow up, to see her learn and come to know Jesus. I can’t wait for the blessings that will come for our entire family as Amelia grows up.
Praise the Lord!
Have a blessed day,
